Truth is, people are only being nice when they ask you how things are at the funeral home.  Frankly, most people are discouraged to hear “business is great” because they don’t want you to be successful.

Simply put, people don’t want to die and they don’t want to hear about death.

This may read as a joke, but I’m absolutely serious.  It’s really hard to talk about the realities of the funeral business with a “civilian.”

My suggestion?  Don’t talk about it in any detail.  If they ask, resist the urge to tell them how much money you’re making or how slow it is.  You’ll either get “that’s too bad” or “that’s great… for other people” from your audience.
